Iron Maiden ‘From Fear To Eternity’

23 05 2011

Got this in the post last week.I love the artwork. There’s a few subtle nods to the band’s history over the last 20years (’90-’10) and it’d be great on a poster.

Press release below!

EMI are proud to announce the release of ‘From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010’. A double-CD set spanning twenty years this collection follows the huge success of 2010’s studio album ‘The Final Frontier’ which hit the number one spot in 28 countries around the world. It also became the band’s highest-charting album in the USA where Iron Maiden have been awarded their first Grammy for Best Metal Performance, for the song ‘El Dorado’, taken from ‘The Final Frontier’ album, and which is included in this selection.

‘From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010’ charts the musical development of Britain’s most successful metal band as they have evolved their sound, producing longer, more complex songs, gaining huge critical acclaim in the process. Featuring many of the epics for which the band has become renowned, it is accordingly released as a double-CD, but will retail for the price of a single album.  ‘From Fear To Eternity: The Best Of 1990-2010’ will also be released as a Digital Download Album and as a Limited Edition Triple Vinyl Picture Disc.

Perennial favourites to be found on this album include songs also featured in Maiden’s current ‘The Final Frontier World Tour’ set list; tracks such as ‘Fear Of The Dark’, ‘Blood Brothers’ and ’Dance Of Death’ sit alongside recent classics ‘El Dorado’ and the hauntingly evocative ‘When The Wild Wind Blows’.  It also include singles like ‘Holy Smoke’ and ‘Be Quick Or Be Dead’ together with more progressive thought-provoking album tracks like ‘Afraid To Shoot Strangers’ and ‘For The Greater Good Of God’.

Iron Maiden’s current phenomenal global success has meant their ever-expanding fanbase now encompasses a brand new generation of metal lovers. ‘From  Fear To Eternity’ is a chance for these new fans of the band to explore Iron Maiden’s rich history, with the highlights of their last eight studio albums distilled into this handy collection, which follows 2009’s compilation of their earlier work, the 1980-1990 ‘Somewhere Back In Time’ album.

Iron Maiden have just completed the first leg of their 2011 World Tour which saw them play shows in Singapore, South Korea and Indonesia for the first time as well as Russia, Australia, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Puerto Rico and the USA. They return to Ireland on Wednesday 3rd of August to play the Odyssey Arena in Belfast.

Tennent’s Vital Rumours

19 05 2011

Ok, so since I posted up the press release for this year’s Tennent’s Vital I’ve been receiving hundreds of views a day, specifically from people wanting to know details of the line-up. The official announcement is being made on May 25, but I figured it might be a good idea to flag up some of the likely contenders on here.

At the time of writing, I’m currently in the dark when it comes to which acts will be playing the event in Bangor and while I knew last August that it would be returning in 2011-that’s about the only thing I was aware of for definite. So, just for fun, here’s a few educated guesses. Oh, and I must stress-this list is mere speculation. While I’m probably going to hear who’s performing at Vital this year before May 25, it’s strictly embargoed, so I won’t be mentioning it until that date….

Anyway-here’s my picks…

My Chemical Romance

They’re playing Reading/Leeds a few days later so they’re in Europe, they’ve a massive (and youthful) following and, perhaps most importantly, promoters MCD have already booked them for this year’s Oxegen which means a trip to Bangor could also be on the cards.

Pulp have been mentioned by a few of the more, um, mature music fans as being a contender for this year’s Tennent’s Vital-but the big question is-will the majority of festival go-ers actually remember them/know who they are? There’s also the fact that they’re playing at Electric Picnic this year (which isn’t promoted by MCD) and may have had to sign a contract stating that that will be their only Irish show of the year. Now before any Tom Elliott types get all hot and bothered and also brand me “scum” for suggesting there’s a link between the north and south of Ireland (controversial I know…) these types of contracts can be quite common, but here’s hoping Jarvis and Co. do make it Bangor as it could be a fun bit of nostalgia.

The Strokes

The Strokes are another popular choice for headliners and they’ve made no secret of their love of NI, so I can this happening. Especially since they’re playing Reading/Leeds and are free on both of those dates.

Another act Playing Reading/Leeds and another band who can fill Ward Park are Muse. They haven’t been to NI in a while, so maybe the time’s right?

The Black Eyed Peas

Could 2011 be the year the Black Eyed Peas make their inaugural visit to NI? They’re certainly big enough to headline Tennent’s Vital, their booking agents and MCD have worked together many times in the past and their world tour is continuing to roll on. Who knows…?

Now Bono’s back is on the mend and there’s a new album on the way, U2 could be a surprise announcement for this year. While admittedly it’s an outside bet, the fact that the band haven’t played in NI in moons alone makes it a potential go-er…

He’s playing V Festival in England a few days beforehand…

Two Door Cinema Club

While the Bangor natives aren’t quite headliners just yet, expect the hometown heroes to be announced on the supporting line-up at some stage.

So there you have it. Personally speaking I would love to see a rock/indie day and then a pop/mainstream day just to keep things fresh (I though the year they had Scissor Sisters and Kings Of Leon as headliners worked brilliantly) but we’ll see what happens. Oh, and if any bookers are reading this-try and get Best Coast to play too! They’re ace.

Tennent’s Vital Is Back

11 05 2011

Yes folks,it’s been confirmed today that this summer Tennant’s Vital returns with a new approach, a new home and new ideas. Here’s the press release below and I’ll post up more info (line-up rumours, ticket details and all the rest) over the following days.

After much speculation and fervent pleading from music fans and commentators alike, Tennent’s Lager today confirmed that, as part of a major deal with promoters MCD, Tennent’s Vital will be back this August 23rd and 24th.  The good news doesn’t end there, Northern Ireland’s favourite festival is also confirmed for 2012 and 2013.

The two day music spectacular will take place in Ward Park, Bangor, the venue which was put on the international music map by Snow Patrol when they played Northern Ireland’s biggest ever outdoor music show there last summer.

The last Tennent’s Vital in 2007 drew a combined audience of over 45,000 across two days to see headline acts The Killers, Kasabian, Razorlight and Manic Street Preachers, perform in what has since been cherished as one of the most celebrated music events ever held in Northern Ireland.  Over the years, Tennent’s Vital fans have been treated to performances from Kings of Leon, Snow Patrol, White Stripes, Faithless, Scissor Sisters, Kaiser Chiefs and New York Dolls.  The standard has been set high but this year’s line-up, which will be announced later this month, is guaranteed to surpass it.

Announcing the three year music investment, Aisling Duffy, Head of Marketing with Tennent’s NI, said:

“It really is a case of ‘back by popular demand’. Over 3000 fans joined facebook campaigns to bring Tennent’s Vital back and we received that message loud and clear.  However, we felt it was important to hold off until we could deliver the level and mix of headline bands and incredible supporting acts that made Tennent’s Vital such a great festival experience.

Tennent’s has a hard earned reputation for associating itself with innovation and excellence in live music.  We know the fans will not only be delighted to have Tennent’s Vital back for a guaranteed three year run; they’ll also be blown away by the line-up.”

The details of that line up are being kept under wraps until May 25th but fans who visit will be first in line to hear about news and competitions.  They’ll also be able to apply to win tickets to an exclusive Tennent’s Vital launch party.  From May 26th – the day after official launch – they’ll be eligible for a ‘facebook fan’ ticket pre-sale, accessing tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

Aisling Duffy says, “Tennent’s has a rich heritage in music here in Northern Ireland and in Scotland where T In The Park is now in its 18th year.  Northern Ireland wants and deserves its own major festival and we believe that, working in close partnership with MCD, we’re the team to deliver.  This is going to be live music at its best and we’re just as excited about Tennent’s Vital 2011 as any fan out there!”

Welcoming news that Tennent’s is committing to three years’ of major music Festivals in Northern Ireland, Joy Bond, Events Manager with the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, said, “This is fantastic news for Northern Ireland.  The scale, quality and, indeed, the reputation, of Tennent’s Vital will attract audiences from right across these islands and beyond.  It is a superb boost for all of us with an interest in promoting Northern Ireland as a visitor destination and will reinforce our image as a European centre for contemporary live music.

“Tennent’s is to be commended for the confidence it has shown in making such a substantial three year investment in our cultural infrastructure.”
